First Responders Day events set for May 20

Agencies throughout the Brazos Valley will be celebrating First Responders Day on May 20 with events for the entire family.

In Brazos County, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Ranch Harley-Davidson in College Station, an event is set that will feature a “best human siren” contest, a dunking booth for police and fire chiefs, CPR lessons and a silent auction. A bounce house and train ride for children also will be available, and the community can meet police, firefighters and EMS personnel.

In Grimes County, the Navasota Police Department and the Navasota Fire Department will host activities in downtown Navasota from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can meet first responders and get a close up of police cars, fire trucks, helicopters, ambulances, an armored personnel carrier and more. There will be various live demonstrations of crime-fighting and rescue activities, and at 2 p.m., police officers and firefighters will square off in tug of war.

Admission to both events is free.
